My Paintings-Warli Art!

Warli Art

Warli is the tribal community who has it's own beliefs, life, customs and rituals. The warlis speak an unwritten language composed of  Gujrati, Sanskrit, and Marathi words. The word "Warli" comes from the word "Warla",  which means a piece of  land based in the north of  Mumbai, India.Warlis use very basic geometrical shapes such as squares, triangles and circles.

Warlis make paintings on walls on specific occasions such as harvests and weddings. Warli paintings are done with white colour made of  rice paste, water and gum. Warlis draw paintings with the help of  bamboo stick, which is chewed at the bottom to use it as a paintbrush.

Warli paintings include human figures, animals, trees and scenes: dancing, farming, fishing, hunting, celebrating festivals.

Warlis strongly believe in the concept of  "Nature as Mother". They believe that Mother Nature is the central to all their customs and traditions.
